Ran easy down the marathon course with The Circle. Like to stay off the marathon course as much as possible but knew we needed to get a little bit of downhill training.

It was super dark for the first 10 or so miles and Clyde unfortunately paid for it by literally barreling into a barrel. I lent him a hand but he felt like I was laughing at him. That was not the case. He took ridin' dirty to a whole new level! Lots of traffic didn't help either. It was super busy.

16.60 miles with 6:44/mile. Felt good and look forward to doing a big boy workout on Saturday down the course because it will most likely be the last free Saturday I have until the marathon.

Felt good to run with the guys again. It has been too long. They seemed to be fine after running such great races on Saturday.

2.55 miles from Jacob Hamblin after hiking a bit with the kiddos over there while Katey ran and I checked on the team. Good start to the week.

3 miles this morning. Legs were a little sore from yesterday but felt okay.

Very hot this afternoon running at Little Valley Park. Took our top 8 boys and top 3 girls to do this workout since they were not running. 2 mile warm up, 6x800m and then 4x400m with a short cool down. I would alternate running with the boys and the girls on the 800s. Hot but they felt somewhat easier then I imagined. Hit 2:33-2:36 with the boys on 4 of them and just over 3:00 with the girls for 2. I ran 1:10 - 1:14 on the 400s. 7 miles total. I was plum tuckered out after the workout. I guess I am getting old.

The meet was hot tonight. Glad to see the team gut it out though. So proud to coach such a great group of individuals who want to work together as a team!

Big Boy Workout (Mini today) with The Circle. Did the usual warm up and then got going. Plan was to hit 4-5 miles today since Saturday is the more important workout for me since it will probably be the last time I get to go on the marathon course before the race.

Hit 5:27, 5:22, 5:24, and 5:31 for the 4 miles today. Happy with this and then just eased into it until I met up with the guys. They ran well. I am really trying to be smarter about things with my training and not overdo it. I think my body will thank me later for it. 15 miles this morning.

Woke up really early (3:45) to meet the guys at the finish of the marathon. We drove up and got started around 4:45. My stomach was not feeling great but I knew I needed to work through it. Aaron and Steve took off and I just clicked off miles under 7:00/mile. Ran with Clyde for the first 9-10 miles while having a couple potty breaks. Much needed. My plan was to push the last 11 miles to see how I felt. Stopped at the top of the volcano to get fluids and got going. Here are my last 11 miles worth of splits:

5:34, 5:22, 5:25, 5:31, 5:23, 5:21, 5:34 (up Winchester and also caught up to Steve), 5:24, 5:17, 5:16, 5:25.

Very happy with the way this turned out. I felt really good these last 11 miles. I hope to use this as confidence heading in to the marathon. I was excited how I finished the last couple miles in town. That is usually a bit of struggle for me. 20.5 total miles and 6:00/mile for the entire run. Sweet!

Hurried over to the high school to time the time in our first Michigan workout of the season. Everyone rocked it out. I ran back and forth hollering times to the boys and girls. Very impressed with how they did today.

3 miles to start the week off.

8.5 miles this afternoon running in sketchy weather. It started raining on us which felt great but we got covered in thunder in lightning and really had to pick it up the last 2 miles. We all survived but the temps were much cooler so it was great!

Big boy workout with the Circle. My legs were still sore from Saturday's workout so I knew it wouldn't be fast but I wanted to still get a good push. We did our warm up and got going. It was super humid so that didn't help. Just got through it. Nothing spectacular but ran 5:46/mile overall. Got it done. We got rained on during the cool down. Lots of fun. 15.1 miles total.

4.75 miles jogging around in the afternoon as the team did dirt mile repeats by my parent's house. Team looked really good today.

3 miles in the morning with the boys. Another good run.

8 miles total this afternoon at Little Valley Park. The school was on lockdown until 3:20 so we were a little late getting started. 2 mile warm up, 8x400m, 2 mile cool down. I hit 1:10 - 1:13 for each of the 400s. Good workout today.

Met up early with Dave and ran down the course again. His Dad was nice enough to drive us up. We had cold air and a nice tailwind. It was awesome conditions! The plan was to do 4,8,4 down the course. We did a 4 mile warm up, 4 miles in 5:43, 5:42, 5:38, and 5:36. Decent uphill miles and happy with the start. 8 miles at 6:00/mile. The last 4 miles were 5:26, 5:17, 5:20, and 5:26. I got stopped in traffic so I had to slow down on the last mile. Great workout today! 6:03/mile overall. Glad to get this in with Dave. He ran great! 20.5 miles total.

3 miles in the afternoon after we got up to Orem. It should be a fun meet tomorrow.

Big boy workouts this morning with the Circle. Clyde wanted to do something a little different and I was okay with that. We met at the DC and ended up doing a warm up and then did a 4 mile tempo, 6 min. recovery jog, and then another 4 mile tempo run. Hit 5:29/mile for the first 4 and then 5:27/mile for the last 4. Felt really good this morning. I think I might use the Kinvaras for my marathon shoe. Clyde is rubbing off on me.

A few more miles this evening while the team did a workout under the lights in preparation for the Woodbridge Classic.

Big boy workout with the Circle plus starting out with Mark this morning down the course. Last time doing before the actual marathon. Plan was to do the 4, 8, 4 workout and rock it out. Hit 6:09 (a little too chatty), 5:33, 5:27, and 5:27 for the first four miles and then just over 6:00/mile for 8 miles and then finished off with 5:10, 5:06, 5:07, and 5:09. It was warmer today so we ended up using other people's water along the course. Sorry! 6:03/mile for the entire run.

I felt really good today and was very happy with how I ended the workout. Very, very positive heading in to the last couple weeks before the big day. Very solid start to the day.

Now we head to California to go and have fun at the Woodbridge Classic!

Woke up and ran with Matthew down to Disneyland and back. The VRBO house we are staying at is really close to Downtown Disney. It was fun running over there. When we came back I took the boys and did the same run with them. Nothing like a bunch of high school boys running around Disneyland with shirts off. Family friendly! Got back to the house and then did that same run again with the girls. I was proud of how they ran last night. They did well and it was nice to spend some time talking with them about the race. 12.3 miles total for the morning.

Happy way to end the week. Excited to see how the boys do tonight in the Sweepstakes race!

9.70 miles this afternoon with the team. Did a 2 mile warm up and then hit 10x500m dirt hill repeats behind the school with some of the younger boys. Didn't want to hammer it and ended up accomplishing that. Plyombata and cool down after wards.

Last Big Boy Workout with the Circle before the marathon next week. We met up at the DC and did a 3.5 mile warm up doing circles around Emeritus Estates. Yeah! Plan was to hit 5 miles at MP around the Mayor's Loop and then one mile rest with 2 miles back up the River Trail. Hit 5:46, 5:31, 5:29, 5:21, and 5:40 (big hill on this one) for 5:32/mile. Felt great! The 2 miles back up the trail went well also. Hit 5:16 and had to work in order to catch Clyde and ended up hitting 5:10 for the second mile. Cooled down back to the trailhead.

Great workout for this morning and happy with the splits. 13.5 miles total.

Slept in this morning and it was great because of all the rain and lightning. It made it very easy to sleep in :) Ended up getting out and running around 12:30pm. Ran along Snow Canyon Parkway and then went past Snow Canyon High School over to Las Palmas in Green Valley. My in-laws and other family members were staying there for the weekend. Lots of water and mud out on the roads. Yikes. 6:47/mile. Felt good.

8 miles total this afternoon with the boys at my parent's house. We did a 2 mile warm up and then 4x1 mile with 4x200m finishes. It was supposed to be a slight progression run. Hit 5:32, 5:36, 5:27, and 5:19. The boys were antsy and super relaxed at the same time. Spirits are high and things are very positive right now. It is a blessing to coach this team. The boys crushed me on the 200s. I am old and slow.

3 more miles this morning with the boys to the bridge and back.
