7.35 miles in the morning.

10 miles in the early evening.

First day of cross country practice.  It was a lot of fun and it felt good getting kids out.  I think a lot are still on vacation so it might be a little sparce for a bit.  I had about 15 kids come out though.  We did a 1 mile warm-up and then ran a 5k route around Desert Hills.  I wanted to keep it easy to see where everyone is at; endurance and in shape wise.  Katey then led us in some core exercises afterwards.  It should be a good year.  There a lot of 9th and 10th graders so we need to make sure we build a good foundation for the program.  I ran another easy 3.15 miles after practice.

I went out in the heat today.  I took the shirt off and dipped the hat in water and away I went.   I did my usual 10 mile run out to Red Mountain Spa along the parkway.  I ran through sprinklers in order to keep me cool.  The wind was blowing just a bit but it was still very hot.  I focused on my breathing along with staying relaxed and this really helped.  My shorts were extra salty once I got back to my parent's house.  I immediately jumped into there pool.  It was so refreshing!

11.30 miles in the morning.

9 miles in the afternoon in 108 degree weather!

I ran with the cross country team again and then added on 6 more miles.  I went out towards the Arizona Strip.  It was a nice change of scenery for one of my runs.  Legs felt really good.  It seems like everyday gets better and better.

It was a scorcher this afternoon.  I am going to try more of these afternoon runs when it is really hot.  I think it will help me focus on my breathing a lot more.  I will try and stay relaxed even though the heat might not be very bearable.  I made sure I drenched my hat again which helps out a ton.  I kept it easy the first half and then pushed it slightly on the way back.  I got home and drank a big glass of water and then jumped in the pool.  I won't have this luxury everyday after I run so I will have to take advantage of it every chane possible.

Katey and I are now heading over to Zion to camp out for the evening and then go on a hike in the morning with some friends.  I will try and get some miles in early tomorrow morning.  I am going to run through part of the park.

I had to cut my run short this morning because Katey and I were going to hike the Subway in Zion National Park today with some friends.  I kept it easy and ran out towards Ivins and then back.

The hike was really fun today.  It was nice and long.  It took us about 9 hours to do.  A long time hiking but it was very enjoyable for all who was there.  There were places to jump off into water and also places to repel down.  I wasn't that tired so I hurried home and met up at the store for the club run.  Kamm, Steve, Dave, and I did the usual 10 mile loop.  It got a little chilly on the run tonight (I think it dropped below 95!)

Bill, Dave, and I met at the store at 5am and then headed up to Enterprise for the 2nd Annual Steve Abraham Lincoln Hooper Memorial 17.35 Fun Run.  This race started last year and is slowly getting more popular!  There were not a lot of runners in this race so all three of us were happy about our chances of doing well.  This course is all on dirt road and has quite a few hills to climb up.  I made sure I pushed it as hard as I could on the uphill and relaxed the downhill.  I feel much stronger now going up hills than I did in the past.  I almost fell down going one hill.  My foot hit a rock and I pretty much went horizontal but was able to come away unscathed.  I then almost tripped again going uphill hitting another rock.  I am happy to report that I survived though.  We kept the pace conversational for the first 4 or so miles and then slowly picked it up.  All in all it was a great race.  I hit 2:06 something.  Not bad considering all the dirt and hill climbs.  The highest elevation point we hit was just over 6100 ft.  The Garmin was right on though.  I crossed the cattle guard and was at 17.35.  Not a USATF certified course but the people who marked the course last year did a phenomenal job with getting the correct mileage.

Bill took 1st place in the Masters division, Dave took 1st place in the Sub-masters, and I took 1st place in the Open division.  Our prize was waiting for us at the end of the race.  All three sat in the cold river for about 20 minutes.  It felt really good on the legs.  Great run for everyone today.  Might go for another short run this afternoon.

Dave, James, Dustin, Marcie, and me went up along the marathon course today for our run.  We did 20 miles of the course.  It was perfect running conditions the entire time.  It was very cloudy and had a little bit of rain in some spots.  We started out just above Veyo and ran back down to the store.  It was nice and relaxed for the the first little bit and then Dave and I pushed it for the last 5 or so miles.  I stayed relaxed and the legs were really turning over quite nicely.  I was very sluggish at the start but finally got out of the funk later in the run.  It was a nice push for the end of the week.  Happy with another solid week of training.  I can't complain too much.  Looking forward to doing Bryce in 2 weeks.

I ran just over 6 miles with the cross country team this morning.  I took some of the team on a 5 miler at a moderate pace with a good kick at the end.  We went out along River Road going towards the Arizona Strip.  After we finished, many of them stated they had never done a 5 mile run before.  I couldn't believe this.  I am going to push them this year.  I want them to get to the point where 5 miles doesn't feel like a "long" run.  Some did a 3 mile run this morning.  Everyone did great this morning.  I am very excited for the team this year.  I did another 4 miles afterwards.  Meat Grinders this evening.

Another 3 Meat Grinders for the evening.  It was nice and hot.  I was feeling better than last week so I wanted to push them to see how well I could do.  I hit 7:10, 7:03, and 7:12 for the hill repeats.  It was a solid effort and I am very happy with tonight's workout.  It was nice to see everyone push it this evening.  These will make us stronger runners.  Bedtime now!

Everyone on the cross country team ran 5+ miles today not including the mile warmup.  It was good to see everyone do this.  I then ran another 5 miles afterwards.  I realized once again how great the weather is down here to run in.  I love it!  Legs felt fine after last nights big workout.

I got home from working at the store and was really tired.  I took a 3 hour nap.  I have the luxury of doing this during the summer.  Once school starts it will be hard to find time for naps.  I went out and did an easy 9 miler out into Ivins.  Katey rode the bike alongside me while we had good conversation.  It was my kind of date.  I can run and I don't have to spend any money!

I ran with the cross country team and then added on a few miles by myself.  I went from the high school over to the trail by the Dixie Center and then around Bloomington Hills.  It was nice to get another decent run in.  Speed workout at 8pm at Snow Canyon High tonight if anyone is interested.

Katey's family is in town for the next 3 days so I will really have to focus on getting the runs in over the next couple days.  Her family is really supportive and understands I usually go for a run when everyone is lounging around and then we go and do something.  That was the case this evening.  I met up with Steve H. at the Snow Canyon High track for a big workout.  I did 8x1000m repeats with a 400m recovery jog in between each one.  I started out with a 2 mile warmup and then got right into it.  Here are the splits: 3:01, 3:03, 3:03, 3:02, 3:03, 3:01, 3:02, and 2:56.  I really kicked in the last repeat.  I haven't done these for a while so I wanted to see how I would feel.  I got into the groove and kept it there.  Really happy with the workout tonight.  One mile cooldown afterwards.

I went golfing at the Ledges with my father-in-law and two brother-in-laws.  I didn't lose too many golf balls so it was an overall good day at the course.  Broke away long enough to run with the club tonight.  I kept it easy and then pushed the last 3 miles with Dave.  It was still pretty warm this evening.

I wish I had more time for a longer run today but it wasn't going to happen.  I went hiking in Zion all day with the in-laws.  Angel's Landing was a blast though.  It is only a couple hour hike but it turned into an all day event.  It is 5 miles round trip.  I got a good workout because I carried my nephew in the hiking backpack for most of the way up.  The calves and quads were really feeling it.  I was too tired to run when I got home so that is life.  Big run tomorrow morning with the club.

I met up with Dave, Clyde, James, Wildbull, and Austin at the Dixie Center for a good 20 miler.  We did part of the Painter's Half Marathon course for one full loop and then did the Bloomington loop an extra time.  It was quite muggy this morning due to the storm we had late last night.  We kept the pace nice and easy for the entire run except for when I took the bait from Clyde and really kicked it in the last 1.5.  It was nice to finish off the week on a great note.  I have had 3 weeks straight of solid 20 mile runs on the Saturday mornings.  Looking forward to Bryce next week.

I met at the Dixie Center for the club run this evening.  It rained a little on us which made the run very enjoyable and relaxing.  The cooler temperatures made it perfect weather for a run tonight.

I ran the Bloomington loop with the cross country team this morning and then added on some more miles by running out to SunRiver and back.  Once again, another very humid morning.

I ran an easy 3 miles out towards Ivins before Katey and I headed over to run in the 1st Annual Chelsi's Run.  If you are not aware of her story, she was a heptathlete at BYU and tragically passed away in a car accident a month ago.  They did this run in order to raise money for a scholarship that they will be giving out each out.  The run started at 10pm and there were a ton of people running.  There were probably close to 600 people total.  It was a great sight to see.  I wanted to just get some quality miles in this evening so I wasn't worried about my time.  Clyde and I did a 1.5 mile warmup to get the legs loosened up.  Clyde, Hayden, and me went out and ran the entire thing together.  We hit a 5:00/mile for number 1 and then slowed down a bit just to not trash the legs for Saturday.  It was a fun little 2 lap course.  The three of us crossed the line together.  The paper got a nice picture of us so we were able to advertise for the running center.  This was a ton of fun and will look forward to running this every year.  We then made sure we did a mile cooldown.  3.05 miles in 16:23.

I ran an easy 8 miles this morning.  I was a little tired due to getting home so late last night.  I got a nap in after I was done running though.  That always helps out a lot.

I went over to the track after working at the running store and met up with Eric for a basic speed workout.  We ran 8x400m with 200m recovery in between.  I did a mile warmup and then a mile cooldown afterwards.  I just wanted to get some good turnover and not push it to much.  I hit all of them between :67 and :74.  Never felt like I was pushing that much but it felt good to get the legs moving.  It was great talking with Eric a little bit and getting to know him.  He works graveyard shifts and I applaud him.  I did this through college and know exactly how tiring they can be.

I got some dinner in me and then an easy 2 miles around the beautiful town of Tropic to help the food start moving south.

I was really shooting for a 1:07 something today during the half marathon.  I wasn't too worried about pace but was more concerned about hitting the time.  I knew I would have to push the pace a little but I felt really good and ready to do so.  Here are the splits:

1- 5:15 - went out feeling really relaxed

2- 5:26 - a little slow but I knew I would get it back on the downhill

3- 4:52 - the kid going to BYU goes down the hill like a mad man

4- 4:54 - BYU kid is still 200 yards ahead

5- 4:59 - running with Dave and the Italian guy

6- 5:04 - course starts to level off and where the race really begins

7- 5:00 - I catch the BYU kid and then lead the rest of the race

8- 5:05

9- 5:17

10- 5:12

11- 5:13

12- 5:18

13- 5:14

.1- :23

I wasn't feeling all that great the last 2 miles but I told myself to keep pushing and really dig deep.  I was really happy with the time and effort today.  5:08/mile overall.  I got plenty of fluids in me and then did a cooldown with the guys.  This was much needed.  I was happy with the time.  It was 2:19 faster then last year.  Suprisingly now that I am back home the legs aren't that bad.  We will see how they feel tomorrow though!  I need to really gear up and get some serious training in for Twin Cities.  I am thinking of doing the TOU Half this year and then probably be done with races until the marathon.

It was really fun seeing my little sister and Katey come in afterwards.  They both ran the half marathon this morning.  Katey ran the race in 2:11 and change.  Their is something about a women that runs.  Katey is a huge support and is nice for me to go and run in with her.

I ran with the XC team this morning.  Many of them said I looked like I was hurting.  My quads weren't in the best shape so I kept it easy with them and then added a couple more miles after practice.

I worked at our new house all day today.  We are getting the yard cleaned up and doing some minor remodeling in the house before we start moving everything in.  My legs loosened up quite a bit since I was moving the entire day.  I ran another easy 6 miles out in Ivins.  Legs were still a little heavy.

Once again ran with the XC team this morning.  I added a few miles along the Dixie Center trail over by Bloomington Park.  Surpisingly the legs felt much better this morning.  You have to love recovery after a race.  I guess the pain is worth it though.

I had a nice run out by the softball diamonds after work.  I am glad to be running instead of playing softball where I would not be a good hitter and only touch the ball once or twice in the game.  I love running!

I had the team do a little relay to try and mix up practice a little bit and slowly start to incorporate speed work. I then did some more miles after practice. I ran from Bloomington Park over to the Dixie Center and back. It got fairly hot during the run. Legs felt really good this morning. I think most of the nasty pain is gone.

I would on our house for most of the day so I didn't get out for my run until late.  I did another easy 8 miles out into Ivins.  I am excited to be living out there because of all the beautiful scenery and number of running routes.  Training should be good out there once we get all settled in.

I met up with Dave and Clyde and DC for our big workout.  We did a 4 mile warmup and then 7 miles worth of tempo and ended with a 4 mile cooldown.  This Tinman workout was great.  I averaged 5:56 for the 7 mile tempo.  It was out into Bloomington Hills on the loop.  It was slightly uphill and not a ton of downhill so it was a true route.  Legs were not as tired as I thought they would be.  That is a good sign.  It is nice to be done for the day but the downside is that I get to move everything into the house today.  Yeah!

I ran 6.4 miles with the XC team this morning and then added on some more around Bloomington Hills in order to get 12 for the morning.  I have some sophomores that are really stepping up to the plate and doing well with pushing themselves.  I get more and more excited for this season each day.  It should be fun.

I got home late from work and ended up taking a 30 minute nap when I got home.  I was really tired.  I then went on my 8 mile run for the evening.  I was having stomach issues and barely made to the Ivins City restrooms.  When I was heading to the bathroom I heard someone say, "Logan."  I wasn't sure who was calling my name that late but it turned out to be Hayden.  I ran 4 miles with him and chatted about his 10k race yesterday.  It was a nice run and fun to jabber with him.

I did another big workout today along the marathon course.  I did a progression run with the first 8 miles very casual and then slowly picking up the pace for the last 10 miles.  I went from Tinman tempo to MP to LT.  Here are the splits:

1- 6:11

2- 6:02

This truly was a great workout for me.  My legs were a little heavy once I started the 10 mile progression but I felt some what better after I started dropping the pace.  I was pleased with the workout even though I had 2 potty breaks due to some cereal I ate last night.  I was glad to see the pace get faster each mile.  I need to continue having good workouts like this.  I am happy to report that I am also not very sore.  That is a huge bonus.  It was a great workout with the guys this morning.

Tinman tempo workout this morning.  I had XC practice so I wasn't able to run with Dave and Clyde this morning.  I did 4 miles with the team around Tonaquint Park as my warmup then started the tempo back to the house.  I hit 5:48, 5:51, 5:47, 5:49, and 5:46 for the first 5 miles and then my Garmin went off.  It wasn't fully charged.  I kept the pace steady and knew about where the 2 extra miles ended.  I then did a 4 mile cooldown.  It was a good workout and I am glad to have it done.  The cloud cover made it so it wasn't too terribly hot.

4 easy miles this afternoon.  It was a little breezy which cooled down the weather.  This was the first time running from our new house out in Ivins.  We officially have everything in the house and just need to unpack it.

15 miles during the big workout this morning.

I woke up at 3:15 to go over to Pineview's track to do a big workout with Clyde and Dave.  We had to do it early because I had XC practice and I also had meetings all day for work.  It was early and yes I was pretty tired.  We did a 3 mile warmup into Green Springs and then did 2 mile tempo back to the high school.  Dave turned on the lights which made it more enjoyable to run that early.  We did 6x1000m with 200m recovery on the track.  My splits were: 3:02, 3:02, 3:02, 3:03, 3:04, 3:03.  We then did a 5 mile cooldown afterwards.  I am happy with the workout and it was nice to have it done for day.

On a side note, we ran upon a skunk on our warmup who lifted its tail and was about to spray us but we went anaerobic for 2 seconds towards the opposite side of the road.  I dislike skunks!  Luckily it didn't spray us.

I had a long day full of meetings for school which made me fairly tired.  I came home and took a nap and then did my run for the evening.  I went out with the club and kept it really nice and easy.  I had a nice time talking with Aaron, Eric, and Kamm.  It made the run quite enjoyable.
