I was really shooting for a 1:07 something today during the half marathon.  I wasn't too worried about pace but was more concerned about hitting the time.  I knew I would have to push the pace a little but I felt really good and ready to do so.  Here are the splits:

1- 5:15 - went out feeling really relaxed

2- 5:26 - a little slow but I knew I would get it back on the downhill

3- 4:52 - the kid going to BYU goes down the hill like a mad man

4- 4:54 - BYU kid is still 200 yards ahead

5- 4:59 - running with Dave and the Italian guy

6- 5:04 - course starts to level off and where the race really begins

7- 5:00 - I catch the BYU kid and then lead the rest of the race

8- 5:05

9- 5:17

10- 5:12

11- 5:13

12- 5:18

13- 5:14

.1- :23

I wasn't feeling all that great the last 2 miles but I told myself to keep pushing and really dig deep.  I was really happy with the time and effort today.  5:08/mile overall.  I got plenty of fluids in me and then did a cooldown with the guys.  This was much needed.  I was happy with the time.  It was 2:19 faster then last year.  Suprisingly now that I am back home the legs aren't that bad.  We will see how they feel tomorrow though!  I need to really gear up and get some serious training in for Twin Cities.  I am thinking of doing the TOU Half this year and then probably be done with races until the marathon.

It was really fun seeing my little sister and Katey come in afterwards.  They both ran the half marathon this morning.  Katey ran the race in 2:11 and change.  Their is something about a women that runs.  Katey is a huge support and is nice for me to go and run in with her.

From Walter on Jul 19, 2008 at 17:43:49

Im not worthy! Holy smokes man!? You are my freakin idol right now! Congrats on a well fought out race and if I could finish a half with 5:15's even if i ran 6's the other 11, I would chalk it up as a powerfull race! I'll have to try making plans for that one next year. Ill bet it was some good scenery!

From MarcieJ on Jul 19, 2008 at 18:21:03

Great job Logan! That is awesome! Those splits are killer. I'm a little worried about all this rad talk though ;). Girls that run are the coolest though!

From Jon on Jul 20, 2008 at 09:49:45

Nice job, man. A well deserved win. Look forward to seeing you at TOU half.

From Sean Sundwall on Jul 20, 2008 at 10:04:26

Nice job Logan. Sounds like a fast course. From looking at the web page of the race, it appears you made off with some good cash as well. That always helps. See you at TCM.

From MichelleL on Jul 20, 2008 at 10:12:13

Great job Logan. The splits are so impressive. It shows you have serious mental toughness to keep your splits so great at the end even though you're getting tired.

One question, shouldn't you do some flatter 1/2's rather than these downhill ones if your focus is Twin Cities?

From Logan on Jul 20, 2008 at 11:00:58

Michelle,

Their are really on 3 miles of steep downhill and then the rest of the course is rolling with a few little uphills. It is a family tradition we do this race every year. Katey, my little sister, and me ran the half while my dad, other little sister, and father-in-law ran the 5k. I would love to do a flatter 1/2 but I am not sure of too many. I am going to focus on longer tempo runs on flatter routes over the next little bit though.

From Walter on Jul 20, 2008 at 11:12:20

Hey Logan, a flat half you can run is rock and roll arizona. Its flatter than a pancake if you can imagine that! and fast too!

From jtshad on Jul 20, 2008 at 13:43:36

Nicely done, congrats on the win and great time! Looking forward to TCM with you (watching you take off after the first couple of minutes that is!).

From MichelleL on Jul 20, 2008 at 15:02:30

Yeah Utah is famous for its aided courses, not as many fair/flat ones. I would suggest the Spanish Fork Half marathon. It is fairly small, but its nice to have aid stations and the atmosphere to make the hard long tempo happen. It is flat overall, with some grade variations but an honest 1/2 marathon. It's on Sept 6 so it will be my last 1/2 before Ogden, a good race off of which to set final expectations for my October marathon.

From josse on Jul 20, 2008 at 15:49:50

Great job on the win!!!

From Lybi on Jul 20, 2008 at 17:09:03

Congrats Logan! Way to nail your goal. I pity any little BYU kids who get in between you and the finish line. ;)

From dave holt on Jul 20, 2008 at 17:29:40

Great job! It was fun watching you hold him off, as I knew he was giving it everything he had!

From James on Jul 20, 2008 at 18:42:19

Way to race! Thanks for inviting us down for the weekend.

From Hayden on Jul 20, 2008 at 19:40:19

Nice race my brother, your training is paying off big time right now. Thanks for pushing me all the time at the club run i hope these club runs and stuff will help me like you.

From Chad on Jul 21, 2008 at 11:02:58

Impressive win, Logan. Good luck geting ready for Twin Cities.

From Sasha Pachev on Jul 21, 2008 at 14:12:38

Solid race! For a flatter course, you can try Provo River Half (reasonably honest) or Spanish Fork Half (very honest, out and back with hills).

From Sasha Pachev on Jul 21, 2008 at 14:14:13

And I forgot to say - congrats on the paycheck and beating Mike Vick.

From James W on Jul 21, 2008 at 16:21:30

Congrats on the PR and the win! I think you can expect good things at TCM as well as St. George this year.

From EricHokies on Jul 22, 2008 at 07:37:36

Logan, I just enjoy looking at your splits! Smooth win. What time/where is the Ivins(?) race Thurs morning? Any intervals this week?
