Stayed in Heber with some of Dave's family last night. Great people and they also had great food.

Woke up and felt pretty good. I didn't know a ton about the course except that it was going to have a lot of climbing. The race started and Dave, Scott Jaime, Jody Benson, and I take it out nice and easy down to the trail just past Bridal Veil Falls. I took the lead for the first section of climbing not really knowing where I was going. Scott took the lead a couple miles in and I never saw him again. That guy is seriously part mountain goat. Dave pushed up the mountain and I held back in 3rd place to not overdo it early on. We kept climbing and climbing and I made it to the top of the first aid station sitting in 3rd place and just about a minute back from Dave. I knew the next section would drop down a little and it did. I was feeling pretty good through this section down from Squaw but had Jody catch me on the next climbing section. He got out in front of me but I kept in my sights until about mile 20 or so and then passed him. We went back and forth and even ran together for the next 6 miles or so down to where my dad and Ferron (Dave's dad) were. Jody and I both stopped at our respective personal aid stations and then started running up Hobble Creek. Once I hit the pavement, I did not feel great for some reason. Jody decided to take off. I knew Dave was only about a minute in front of me still.

I kept moving along for a few miles until I came to my dad and Ferron again. I grabbed some fluids and food and I saw Dave walk around from the back of the car. I didn't expect to see him there. He said he was not feeling good at all. I told him we should run together for the next little bit to see if he started to feel any better. We finally got off the pavement and started to climb some more. I asked Dave, "When does the climbing stop?" His reply, "It doesn't!" I stayed with Dave for a mile or two and he told me to go. I was a little torn because I knew he needed my help. It was like Zion all over again but the roles had been reversed. The first place girl caught us and I knew that I needed to get past her and keep moving.

I passed her and kept power hiking/running for the next 10 miles or so. I was sitting in 3rd place at this point and feeling pretty good. I still had no idea what laid ahead on the course so I was cautiously optimistic. I extended my lead once I got to the top. I felt awesome from miles 33-41. I was in cruise control and was really happy at this point. Everything felt great and I was rolling. Once I got to Windy Pass, I looked to my left and the first place girl came bushwhacking through the trees with her pacer. They must have cut out a mile or two of the course. This made me mad for some reason. I made it to the second to last aid station and she went passed me. I just finished Born to Run again and the first thought out of my mind was "Brujita." I was in 4th at that point and started to make the descent.

The trail was covered in rocks so I had to slow down. I kept clipping my toe and almost falling. Every time I did this my calves and quads would get tight. This did not make me happy. I tried to relax down the mountain but it was not happening. I made it to about mile 44 and then the next guy passed me. He was smiling and laughing as he passed me. What a jerk! I wish I was smiling and laughing at this point. The wheels started to fall off and this point. I really started to cramp up and had to wake for a bit. Just before the final aid station, I got passed by a good friend Shaun Martin. He was flying! I made it to the aid station sitting in 6th place but was toast. I knew the last section would be pavement to the finish and I was not excited. One other guy passed me and I knew I could get him. I passed him with about 2 miles to go and then we hit a small hill and I was done. I stopped in the road and started to walk. I wanted to cry because the last part of the race was not going great. I kicked myself in the behind and pushed to the finish. I probably looked like death but everyone cheered as I went by. 9:38:33 and 7th overall. Happy to finish the race but knew I had a great chance to run well today. It just didn't happen. Dave came in about 10 minutes behind me. I was happy to see him finish strong. I knew he wasn't feel 100% either.

We both soaked in the river after and cramped up the entire time. We tried stretching each other out but it did not help. We gave each other an emotional hug and told each other we will do better next time. It was not a great day for either of us. Better luck next time.

We both agreed that we shouldn't have ran Zion two weeks ago and should have done some more hill training. I know I should have at least. 14,000 feet of elevation change just plan tired me out today. Hopefully I can learn from this and do better at the next race.

I plan on doing some 50ks for the rest of the year. I don't know which ones I will do yet but I am not stressed out about racing right now. School is busy and will get busier and with Oliver here I just will have to be extra smart with my time. Running is still great but I don't want to stress about it a ton right now.

Jacked from the race still on Saturday. Right knee and left ankle are trashed. Played with Oliver and Norah instead.

4 extremely easy miles around Ivins today. My legs are still toast but I was happy to get out. The weather felt good and I needed to get out of the house.

Ran around Ivins and then over to my parent's house in Santa Clara. Jumped in the pool as soon as I got there. Legs are slowly starting to feel better. We will see how the rest of the week goes.

Did a somewhat new 6 mile route around Ivins this afternoon. A little warmer today than the rest of the week. Lots of wind also. 6:55/mile.

A flu bug is going around the house so I took care of everyone this morning. We went for a little walk which seemed to help though. I ended up getting out the door around 12:30pm in the afternoon. It was very hot and windy. I soaked my shirt and hat and took a water bottle. I went along Snow Canyon Parkway and just kept it relaxed. I had to stop at one of the ponds to drench the shirt and hat again. I survived but hope to not have many runs during the hottest part of the day.

Happy to get a week of recovery in. I think I can get going again. Congrats to Cam Levins from SUU. He won the NCAA Championship in the 10,000 and 5,000. That is incredible to get this double. Very impressive.

6 miles this morning. Ran a couple miles before practice with the team. Lots of kids are showing up so I am very happy. This should be a great season.

6 more miles this evening. I ran into Santa Clara and back later this evening. Just getting in the miles. Felt a little sluggish.

6 miles this morning. Did a little before practice and then the rest with the team. Still a good group coming out.

Rest of the day was busy with homework, parent meeting, and a school board meeting so only one run today.

6 miles this morning.

6.60 miles this evening. I took the truck in to get "new" tires and then ran home from the auto place. Decided I needed to push it a little tonight. I ran from Bluff and then all along Sunset through Santa Clara and back home. I was sub-6:00/mile for the first 4 and then just relaxed the last 2 miles. 6:22/mile. Nothing fancy but it felt good to push the legs for a little bit.

Easy 4 miles with some of the kids this morning. I did another .50 mile running around while the tires on the truck got squared away.

6 more miles this evening after taking care of two sick kids for most of the day.

Ran from my house and hit the trails across the street from the Jacob Hamblin house. I ran all the way over to the Green Valley Gap. I forgot how much fun it was to run on those trails. I was cruising along and all of a sudden my foot caught a rock and I took a good little tumble. Luckily my handheld was with me because it helped brace my fall. The downside was my lid came off and most of my water was gone. I survived and can live to tell about it. Great day to be out running. Perfect weather.

Hit a decent week for what I could do. Kids were sick most of the week and I had a ton of homework for school. Hope to get a little more next week though.

In honor of those running Ragnar this weekend, I had 5 roadkills of mountain bikers this morning. Loved it. Blew by them like they were standing still.

7 miles this morning. Did a little before practice and then ran 4 with some of the boys. They continue to look good. I am excited for the season.

6 miles this afternoon in the heat. I drenched the shirt and hat with cool water and they were both dry by the time I hit 1 mile. It kept the body cool though.

4 miles this evening. Lots of homework for most of the day and they ran over to my parent's house for dinner. Pushed the last 2 miles. Felt really good.

Drove to Clyde's house early to get there on time. I fell asleep on the sidewalk but since it was uncomfortable I went in my truck and fell asleep there. Clyde came out and we did close to a mile warm up. Ran the usual loop with Dave and Steve this morning. 77 degrees was a little much but I felt okay. I didn't sleep much due to Oliver but I survived.

5 miles with the boys over to Little Valley Park and back. Got a much needed drink that helped a ton. Did some barefoot strides on the turf after wards. Happy to be done this morning. I might go out for some more later. I will wait and see.

We are staying in Mt. Pleasant for the weekend for Youth Conference. I woke up early and enjoyed past all the cow and turkey farms. Their was a slight chill in the air which felt great. Ran to the city of Moroni and back. 15 miles total at 6:50/mile running close to 6,000 ft. elevation. Felt pretty good.

Woke up early again this morning but ran north towards Fairview and then back. Beautiful country to be running in. I hoped to go longer but I just did not have enough time. Happy to get in some decent miles while away for Youth Conference.

I need to get signed up for a 50k trail race. I have a couple ideas. Any suggestions.

4 miles before practice. Ran just over 3 miles with the girls out on some dirt trails by Little Valley and then did 6x100m barefoot striders in the grass. I then did just over 2 miles barefoot in the grass at the park. Great start to the day.

6 more miles in the early evening. I ran around Ivins and then went over to my parent's house. Finished by jumping in the pool. It was well worth it.

10.20 miles this morning with Clyde. Good conversation and not a bad run. Felt a little sluggish but we averaged right around 7:00/mile.

Did another 6 miles with the boys at practice. We ran a loop from Little Valley over into the dirt hills and then back around to Industrial Rd. and then to River Rd. Good amount of hills and a nice little clip for the boys. Starting to get quite warm in the mornings.

13.40 miles this morning before practice with Clyde.

Longer run with Clyde this morning. I thought we were only going 10 but we went over 13. It was nice and cool at 80 degrees for 5:00am in the morning. We did Clyde's loop backwards and then extended around Stone Cliff, in front of George Washington Academy, and then back to River Rd. Really tired after wards. 6:57/mile.

4.10 miles at practice. Ran with the B group boys today. I am excited about the new freshman we have this year. Lots of potential. 6x100m barefoot striders after practice. Ran a little bit at kids running club as well. A fun group of kids.

Slept in this morning until 6:30am and then met up with some of my varsity runners to run 6 miles over by Barrel Roll. I ran from my house and met up with them. It was a good hilly run. I think the kids enjoyed it. Spent a good chunk of the day at the lake with Clyde and Mik'l. It was fun watching the kids enjoy each other.
