I have done a lot of core exercises to try and strengthen my mid-section.  I am not looking to be chiseled but I know that making my abdominal muscles stronger will help out a lot.  My wife, who is a personal trainer, says that I need to take the entire week off to give my body the rest that I need.  My right ankle is still bothering me so I might do that.  I don't think it is worth hurting myself so early in the season over a couple extra days of rest.  I also get to myself ready mentally.  I am looking forward to the summer for all of my training that I want to do.  I listen to my wife "all the time," but I will most likely go running Friday if the ankle is feeling better!

I need to get myself ready mentally. The sentence I wrote in the blog did not make sense!

I agree that you should take a week off. It does not help you to run injured or when you body is telling you to slow down. I have found if i try and run through it. my work outs suffer. I don't improve and all i do is hit a brick wall. Your wife is a smart woman. It was nice seeing you and your bald head at the marathon!

Can you run on it? Does it get worse if you do?

In general, I think the need to take any days off after a marathon is a superstition. Yes, marathon is harder on your body than a shorter race, but it really not that hard. It is not that long or hard of a race. With proper conditioning you can run them back to back.

Sasha,

I can run on it and hurts for a mile or two but then the pain goes away. I think I am going to start back up on Friday with at least a 10 miler.

I would go out for 3-5 miles today, if it feels good make it 6-8 tomorrow. Take it one day at a time. No long breaks, but no drastic mileage increase after a break either. Using the boil the frog technique (this time we turn it around to do good) we teach the body to do what it would normally refuse to do.

Just take it easy Logan and do not over do it! And stay healthy to run another day!
