6 miles in the morning. A little chilly with temps right around 40 degrees. Kind of unusual considering the weekend we just had.

7 miles this afternoon with some of the boys. Cool breeze and sunny skies made it quite enjoyable.

6 miles in the morning.

Another 6 miles this afternoon of track work with some of the girls. We did a 2 mile warm up, 8x400m and then 4x200m with a cool down. Solid workout for some the girls. Very happy to them hit their splits so well. A little wind made it kind of tough for some of the 400s.

13.20 miles this morning. I did an easy 3 miles before I started with the guys. We then did the usual loop from Clyde's house. Fun conversation as usual. To minimalist or not to minimalist? That is the question.

Did a little bit of a workout with Brigham. We did a mile warm up and then a 2 mile time trial. We were on pace to break 10:00min. but Brigham cramped up a little bit with 2 1/2 laps to go. He will qualify in the 2 this year. One mile cool down.

Played glow in the dark capture the flag. Lots of fun but a fair amount of running involved.

10 miles this morning through Ivins over to Highway 91. It was warm so I took the shirt off a la Tier 1 Coach David Holt. Felt great this morning.

No run this afternoon due to the meet. That is okay. Big run in the morning.

Dave and I went out this morning to run the big hill up onto Gooseberry Mesa and then spend the rest of the time on top of the mesa. Dave kept telling me about the hill and told me it was a fun one. It was dark when we got started and my eyes seem to be getting bad so I could not see the hill up to the top. As we started climbing, we ran into 15 or so deer. It was pretty sweet seeing those to get the running juices flowing.

We started up the hill and Dave and I looked at each other and said, "Screw this!" We power hiked up to the top with our legs and lungs hurting. We hit about 18:40 for the mile. Wow! We both made a conscious effort to not hurry up this hill during the race. It is only about 4 miles in so we want to conserve for the rest of the race.

We got to the top and ran right along the rim of the mesa the whole time. It was beautiful. It was a lot of single track which was a lot of fun. Both of us were not able to get into any kind of rhythm so it was a little frustrating. We did 8:30 - 9:30 miles but it felt so much faster. Lots of sharp turns and jumping and climbing over rocks. Ultra baby! We ran into a couple mountain bikers which was nice to see.

Planned on going a little longer but we were both short on time so we had to turn back. We both realized that the first 16 miles of the race we just need to conserve our energy and not stress about and then the last 34 miles will be easy :-) Really glad we got out and ran this section of the course. I know we are both ready. It took us close to 4 1/2 hours to run today. Yep, 4 1/2 hours! Trail running is a lot different than the road.

The Zion 50 race will be sweet though.

Drove up to Logan yesterday to spend time with family this weekend. Katey and I dropped Norah off at her parent's house and we stayed at the Holiday Inn Express. I was super tired from the drive so I slept in a bit. I got up and ran from the hotel over towards Logan High. It was a balmy 23 degrees at the start but nothing except blue and sunny skies. It warmed up pretty quick  and the cool air actually felt really nice. I wish I could have gone longer but lots of family stuff going on. 6:57/mile overall.

Happy with hitting 90 miles for the week. Just need to keep plugging along. I am excited to see what Dave and I can do in our upcoming races.

Decided to sleep in this morning after a fun weekend in Logan. We drove home and I made it back in time for practice. I did a track workout with Darian. We did a 2 mile warm up, 2x200m, 1x800m, 1x600m, 1x400m, and 1x300m with a 2 mile cool down. Solid workout but it was pretty hot. 7 miles total.

I ran home from the high school after practice to my parent's house to eat dinner. I planned on doing this last night so it was nice to get some more mileage. It was pretty hot outside so I needed to take 2 water stops along the way. I ran towards the Bloomington Loop, along Dixie Dr., down Sunset Blvd., and then up through Santa Clara. Happy to get to my parent's house and sit in the cold pool for a while. 6:40/mile overall for 12 miles. Solid way to start the week.

10 miles this afternoon. Ran 7 miles with Brigham and Scott since they are not going to the meet tomorrow. We went over towards Little Valley. It was nice and hot today. Needed to stop for 2 water breaks. Happy to be done with that.

3 more miles to Hidden Valley Park and back. Just logging the miles.

Super trashed from getting home late last night. Slept in and it was much needed.

4 miles easy with some of the kids this afternoon.

10 miles on the club run. Clyde, Aaron, and Steve. A little windy but it was still warm. Nice way to finish off the day.

Clyde Behunin was born 33 years ago to this day. Sometimes I wonder how he must of felt like coming into this world. Shell shocked and excited is probably how the little guy first saw the world. It just seemed like yesterday he first joined us in this small journey we sometimes call "life."

We went to dinner on Saturday night at La Frontera and Clyde brought up the idea that he wanted to run 33 miles for his birthday. Dave, Steve, and I looked at each other and decided that would be one of the craziest things to do. Running 33 miles wasn't that bad but doing it at 12am (midnight) would make it that much crazier. Sure enough, we all decided to meet at Clyde's at midnight and run with him for his birthday. I am sure our wives thought we were clinically insane.

We started at midnight and did our old tempo loop for close to 13 miles and then did our normal Wednesday morning Clyde's loop x 2. We did those loops in reverse today though. I was basically running on empty the whole time since I hadn't sleep in what seemed like days but we all survived and now have something to talk about for the rest of our lives. We did the 3 loops in just over 4 hours.

Dave, Steve, and I decided that Clyde's birthdays suck and we either want a magician or a clown for next year. Happy birthday Superfly! You are truly one of a kind :)

3 miles this morning.

A little sore but not too bad.

9 miles this afternoon.

7 miles with some of the boys over past Little Valley and then up on to 2450. Pretty warm again and needed the water breaks. It is supposed to be great weather the rest of the week.

2 miles this evening pushing Norah to the park and playing on the playground. She liked going down the slide and then shocking me. She thought it was hilarious.

Usual morning run with the guys. Nice conversation and happy to get some more miles in. Little sore but the ice bath last night helped.

First track race ever tonight. I hope to break the 5:00 minute barrier!

We had the Panther Relays today and it was a really good workout for the kids. Their was an open mile at the very end of the meet. Dave and I decided to do it a week or so ago. I had never ran a track race before in my life. I was fairly excited to do this. I warmed up a little bit with some strides and then got to the starting line. Plan was to hit anything close to 5:00 minutes and I would be happy. Dave and I ran right next to each other for the first 3 1/2 laps and then he got me the last 200 meters. Those long, beautiful legs of his are not fair for my short, fat legs. He got me by a second or so but I was happy with my effort after running 33 miles the other day. I ran 4:51 for my first 1600m race. 1:14, 1:13, 1:13, 1:11 were my splits. It was lots of fun even though I lost. Still a Tier 2 runner and coach!

Did a little bit of a cool down to call it a day.

14 miles this afternoon.

I did an easy 4 miles with some of the team. I then went over to club run and did 4 miles along the DC trail before anyone showed up. Aaron and Clyde came so I did another 6 miles with the looping over towards Bloomington. 88 degrees on our run this evening. Solid afternoon after not feeling well this morning.

Planned on running with Dave this morning on Prospector but I got over to his house a little late. I ran from Dave's house and looped around the turf farm and then did our usual 15 mile loop towards Staheli Farms, down Stone Cliff, up River Rd., over Foremaster, enjoying Telegraph, and back to Dave's humble abode. I wanted to hit the trails today but I was happy with the run. 6:55/mile.

Happy with the 100 miles for the week. A big week and one that helps since Dave and I only have 3 weeks until Zion. It should be exciting.

6 miles this morning through Ivins. Nice weather.

I had meetings all afternoon so I waited until about 7pm to go out for my run. I ran towards Highway 91 while doing an out and back course. It was nice but pretty out. I almost jumped in the splash pad during the run.

10.20 miles this morning with the guys. My right leg feels better after the massage but it is still really tight. Felt like I was dragging it along the whole run.

3 miles this afternoon with one of my freshman. He was a little sick so he did not do the full run. Still dragging my leg.

My leg felt a lot better today but I would rather be safe than sorry. We had to leave crazy early for the meet in Richfield anyway. Hopefully with all of the icing and stretching I will be good to go next week. I guess I will have to wait and see. Not a very good week.

4 miles this morning. The leg felt pretty good. I rolled it out for a while and that seemed to help. I wanted to be a little cautious.

6 miles this afternoon with some of the kids. Did a workout on the track with some of the girls. Did a 1 mile warm up, 1x600m, 2x400m, 3x300m, and 4x200m with a 1 mile cool down. I was surprised I felt so good.

Got home and then over to my parent's house in Santa Clara. Felt warm later in the evening. More stretching and rolling the leg out. Hopefully the hip flexor thing was just a little bump in the road.
